Iceni-in modern day Norfolk and Suffolk in Eastern Britian
Iceni male and female leaders were equals. something not understood by
romans, as roman women did not get citizenship
the Iceni controlled the sea routes between britian and rome, and were
wealthy enough to stamp their own coinage 65BC to 61AD
very rich, cultured , civilized people, wore a lot of gold, bright coloured
tunics, striped cloaks, small check. shows sophictication .
acquired territory was run by client (whoever was conquered) leaders who
sent taxes and tributes to roma.
her husband had left enough land to rome when he died to cover all this.
at this point claudius dies, so there is no control from rome. everyone is
fighting over who will be the next boss, local roman talent decides they
don't have to adhere to roman rules and with all the gold about they decide
to take it away. and they also do not understand the power the women had so
did the rape and insult stuff.
she invoked the goddes Andrasta, to whom she sacrified all prisoners of war,
she did not spare anyone.
also she was lured to her final battle by the desecretion of sacred sites.
